Which xBox 360? Premium or Core?

Hi, I'm sure anyone looking to buy an xBox 360 knows something about how there are two versions of the console. One costs 209 and is called Core, one is called Premium and costs 289. So the high end one costs 70 more.
(prices have recently dropped by about a tenner so prices may vary from what is here)

Anyway as you can guess by the price the Premium version is better.

Always remember this - The low end one can be upgraded by buying accessorys to be identical to the Premium, however you will spend alot more, and only the premium has a silver coloured DVD drive.

Heres the main differences

  • Premium included 20GB hard drive, Core does not. If you get Core and want to save your games you will need to either buy a memory card, or the hard drive. The hard drive costs 69 on its own so basically Core Hard Drive = Same Price as Premium (give or take a few pence!). Also you need the hard drive for any hope of playing xBox 1 games.
  • Ethernet Cable included in Premium. You only need one of these if you want to give your 360 a wired connection to your home ethernet ready network. These only cost a few quid anyway.
  • Silver Finish - Only on Premium, the only thing that cant be upgraded on Core to make it the same as Premium
  • Xbox Live Headset - Only included with Premium. Costs about 15 separatly and is required to chat to people on Xbox Live.
  • Wireless Controller included with Premium. Wired included with Core.
  • High Definition - These cables are only included with Premium, if you want High Def with Core you will need to buy extra cables (Premium will work with normal TVs too!)
-----------------------------------------

So now you know that, you should also know that only certain Xbox 1 games will work on a 360. And to do this you will need a hard drive and either a connection to xBox Live on your 360 or you will need to make a update CD using your computer. To make a CD go to the xBox website (cant put links in guides). If you are connected to xBox live, just put in a compatible xBox 1 game and the update will be automatically downloaded.

So which games will work. Well heres the list as of 22 October 06. More are being added every so often

LIST NOW UPDATED FOR DECEMBER 2006 UPDATE
