TUNING MODULES AND CHIPS WARNING

Are you considering buying a tuning module / box / chip?

BE AWARE OF WHAT YOU ARE BUYING!

Many of the products currently on ebay are bad news, heres what to look out for.

Modification chips: These are advertised as "mod chips" or " 25-40 BHP CHIP" They usually cost between 3 - 8 to buy, at this price you will recieve a resistor worth around 15p and 2 wires which connect it toa sensor you have to unplug under the bonnet which "fools" the engine into thinking it is taking in cold air... which in turn increases the power output of the engine.... Dont get me wrong this can work....... But it can also cause some nasty malfunctions including lights on the dash, engine failure and other electrical problems. your engine is setup by professionals.... I recommend you leave it that way! Please do not also be fooled by the same modification that comes in a little plastic box at a higher price... Although this looks authentic its usually not!

Variable power modules / Chips: These are a give away when they say "variable power", by variable they mean a variable resistor. Same modification as above with thesame pro's and con's. A variable resistor is a resistor with a "dial" to adjust the resistance. Again it has a value of less than 1 and againYou will usually pay a lot more for this unit as it is usually provided as a "KIT" (a few wires and some photocopied instructions).

Some of these units are now advertising as "digital technology".

When buying a power module / chip / unit, REMEMBER THIS NEXT PART.

A GENUINE POWER MODULE WILL HAVE SPECIFIC MANUFACTURER PLUGS FOR YOUR VEHICLE.

A GENUINE POWER MODULE WILL NOT "FIT ANY VEHICLE" (different engines have different ECU maps)(you may find "fits all rover xxx series or fits all ford xxx series or vehicles with the same engine type which is quite common)

A GENUINE POWER MODULE FITS INTO/ONTO OR BETWEEN THE OEM ECU(electronic control unit) *NOT* IN PLACE OF,OR REPLACING A SENSOR!!!

THE SENSORS FOUND AROUND A VEHICLE ARE IN PLACE TO STOP BAD THINGS HAPPENING TO YOUR ENGINE AND YOU!AND TO CONTROL THE WAY THE VEHICLE WORKS. IF THEY COULD BE REPLACED SAFELY WITH A RESISTOR THEN IM SURE THEMANUFACTURER WOULD HAVE DONE SO IN THE MANUFACTURE PROCESS...

So from my guide you can now make your own judgement call on the various "power gain products" out there.
